Portland Timbers Podcasts

They'll be remembered as two of the most important Timbers of the MLS era - two players who were instrumental to developing the team's persisting culture. And while each spend the last part of this Breaking Lines episodes downplaying their impact, there is a reason why Diego Chara and Jack Jewsbury are among the most popular players in the team's history, let alone its MLS era.

Last week, the former midfield partners joined BL to walk down memory lane, reminiscing about the club's early MLS highs and lows, the glories of the 2013 and 2015 seasons, and the value of family that formed around the team during their six years in the same locker room.

Over the last three years, Carlos Anguiano has gone from Timbers academy hopeful, to United Soccer League debutant, to consistent contributor for Timbers 2 to now, when he’s holding down a starting spot in head coach Cameron Knowles’ midfield. Still only 19 years old, Anguiano is enjoying his first full season as a professional, having turned down an opportunity to go the college route this fall and taken to leap up from Salem to pursue his dreams full time in Portland.

Last week in Beaverton, Breaking Lines caught up with the T2 midfielder, who has become key cog in the team’s pursuit of a second-straight postseason berth.

The leap Julio Cascante's took from Costa Rica to the United States last year pales in comparison to the plunges that came before, from starting his professional path in his early teens to, at 18, living out of a locker room in pursuit of his dream. Now, that dream finds him over 4,000 miles from home, enjoying life in the United States, and contributing regularly to the Portland Timbers.

We sat down with Julio last week at the Timbers' Training Center in Beaverton to talk about his path from Puerto Limón, quick grasp of English, new life in Portland, and recent decision to become the latest Timbers player to go blonde.
